Uncle Mikey's Haunt
How this was done
I worked on this stone for quite a while. About eight hours. I knew that I wanted something that would be an outlined tombstone. and that I wanted to use some small Styrofoam skulls that I had found at Michaels Craft store. I used flat black spray paint to etch all my stones. If you did not already know, spray paint eats away Styrofoam. And I used that to my advantage.
Step One - I tapped off the sides and the top of this stone With masking tape. I then drew in the trees on the sides, RIP and the plaque at the top where the skulls were mounted. Step Two - I then cut out the areas of masking tape I wanted the spray paint to etch out on the stone. (tree bark lines and branches) Step Three - I sprayed the stone with Flat black spray paint. That is the process that etches the stone. (Don't use too much it will eat all the way through) Step Four - I removed the tape. I then cut the Styrofoam skull in half that I purchased for a $1.50 at Michaels Crafts and applied them to the stone with Gorilla Glue.
I then applied a flat black latex to the stone to seal it. Then I rolled the stone with a grey flat exterior paint. And while it was still wet I over sprayed the stone lightly with a granite stone spray being careful not to cover the blackened areas. Then at a distance of about two feet I very lightly over sprayed in long strokes along the sides of the stone to give it an aged look. The fished piece!
